Classification of Film

The age rating of my film would be a 15. This is because it contains moments that would be too scary for younger audience members. However, there isn't great emphasis on themes such as sex, drugs, nudity or other areas that would determine the film to be age rated 18. There is an argument that to prevent any members of the audience being affected by the horror shown within the film that it should be classified as an 18. However, in doing so you can dramatically reduce the possible audience numbers as within this genre the target audience young adult/ teens.

Here are some of the categories that determine the age classification and the relevance to my film.

  • Discrimination - My film has no discrimination in with no reference, visually or verbally
  • Drugs - My film contains no reference to drugs
  • Horror - My film contains strong visual horror and psychological horror. However, there is no gore within the horror in this film.
  • Imitable Behaviour - No dangerous behaviour is portrayed in this film so none will be easily copyable. However, paranormal beings cause dangerous situations.
  • Language - Some strong language features in this film. However, it is only swearing in situations of danger or stress. Its not just free, random swearing.
  • Nudity - No nudity is featured in this film.
  • Sex - No sex is featured in this film.
  • Theme - The theme of the film must be acceptable for the age rating specified. The horror theme of my film is more than acceptable for that age range (Teens/Young adults).
  • Violence - Mild violence features in my film with no emphasis on gore. Violence is acceptable in 15 rated films as long as there is no heavy influence upon it. My film features mild injury or violent acts from paranormal characters.
