Poster analysis

Unlike some posters, the poster for 'Paranormal Activity 4' is very basic and features very little graphic design and a basic photo image.
Though basic, the image is well used as it is showed to be a night camera. The fact that the girl is sleeping connotates that this film will be very close and personal as we are close with her and in her space as she sleeps which could be seen as intrusive. It also suggests the film style type, as its close and personal it suggests that it will be handheld/ hand camera style which is becoming a more and more popular filming style within the horror genre. As well as that, the previous films in the series were all filmed in that style and the poster reinforces that this film will be too to any fans of the films.
The only graphic design used is the shadow figure standing over the sleeping girl. Though not completely shown, it appears to be a human figure, this intrigues the audience as it isn't clear what or who the figure is, acting as a hook to make the audience want to watch the film.
This 'hook' effect is added to by the sell line on the poster. 'Its a closer than you think' makes the audience wonder what that is referring to.
In conclusion, i think the film poster for paranormal activity 4 is well made and will cause interest in the film. However, the simplicity of the poster doesn't make the film seem as interesting as it possibly could, therefore the poster isn't is as effective such posters as that of 'Sinister'.
