The genre of my film is horror/psychological horror. This is shown in many different ways throughout my trailer, magazine cover and poster.
After shooting some preliminary footage and made a rough draft of my trailer it is clear to see how the product represents the horror genre.
Audio codes are used to connote the genre of my film as throughtout the trailer, tense and eerie music to create tension and is a stereotypical convention of horror films. I will be using the same music to create the same effect for my final product of my film trailer.
Technical codes include such techniques as editing. My preliminary footage includes the use of quick-cuts, close ups, handheld footage and text shots. The use of quick cuts connotes panic and rapid movements which is a representation of how te characters are feeling and moving. The use of close ups allow the audience to easily see the expressions on the characters faces. This will make a more intimate relationship between the characters and the audience, therefore making the effect on the audience much more effective than if they just feel they are watching a film.
Handheld footage is another technique I have used to help create a stronger bond with the characters for the audience. The handheld effect makes the audience feel as if they are actually there with the characters, therefore creating a stronger bond with the characters.
Text shots are starting to become conventions of horror films as they can create tension by giving the audience information about events. The fade in and out of these shots creates tension as th audience have to wait to see what appear on screen.
The layout within my my poster and magazine cover represent the horror genre. The fonts I plan to use will create a Gothic/scary image. The layout of my draft is fairly basic, allowing the main image to be the main focus point.
